... who do we want then? Big name big payday? Or smaller team so we can have a decent run?

Assuming we win the replay OBVIOUSLY.

you want pompey away. you'd be a shoe-in against a team who've not scored at home since september :)

Natural Blonde said...

Yup we would 'ave you lot easy.

Ahem.

Nice symmetry there. No promises though eh Schmindie ;-)

You happy with your draw?

Patrick said...

That's the second mid week trip we have to make to Southampton in the same month!

Patrick said...

(well actually it's now the FIRST of two)

Patrick said...

ACTUALLY, we play them on the Sunday and then again on the Tuesday!!!! The team might as well stay down there!

Natural Blonde said...

IF we get past Burnley...

Natural Blonde said...

I expect the Doc will save us again though eh Patrick?

Pretty happy thanks NB - not underestimating Plymouth as they seem to be doing pretty well and despite Sturrock's connections with that lot up the M27 I think he's a decent manager.

Still, with the Africans away at the ACoN a home draw against a team in the division below isn't to be sniffed at. Looking at it there are a few all-prem match ups too so could be only about 7 or 8 prem teams in the last 16 which could open things up with favourable draws :)

Not the draw I was hoping for but hey ho.
Afternoon people, how are we all?

Patrick said...

Yup, I reckon with the Doc on fire, Bury and Southampton will ceratinly have a lot to think about

*hmmmm...other Patrick fantasises about Doc ACTUALLY on fire, running around the pitch going "ooh yaroo! It's hot!"*

You have a twisted mind don't you Patrick!

Natural Blonde said...

I'm getting MIGHTY confused with these two Patricks.

Hiya Northy ;-)

Apparently we will hear about Ched tomorrow PM. I reckon we will re-sign him

Natural Blonde said...

*crosses fingers and hopes for Ched*

Hiya Northy hows you? Its blumming cold here in Norwich today - went out to preggers ladies swimming class this morning (we all jumped in and most of the water jumped out, yup) and I'm not going out again!

Fingers crossed indeed.
lol H!

I'm not too bad on the whole.
Got sinus pain and slightly swolen glads so taking it easy but i'm ok.

We need positive Taylor news!

I think Taylor has ambitions above us sadly. Shame cos he really is good!*

*in comparison to the Doc**

**Sorry Doc loving Patrick

Doherty is fantastic. Or rubbish.

I don't even know who I am any more.

We do need to get a decent, well renowned centre back. This means we will need to be prepared to spend.

Natural Blonde said...

I don't think its the money, I think he's holding out for a bigger (maybe Prem) club. I mean all the teams at the bottom of the Prem are probably looking for new talent. Derby could do with some new defenders!!

Anonymous said...

You're right.I could see him at Sunderland myself.
If not Taylor, I think we still need to get a decent CB in.

Patrick said...

I don't mean to be mean or anything, but Derby are definitely a side that need to be planning for a championship campaign next season, and spending accordingly.

I thought Taylor wanted to come to Norwich...or am I being niaive? Would really like to see Taylor back, but if not I defo trust Roeder to get a good alternative, and if he's looking abroad, you know you've got a better chance of getting value for money (my point being proved by the signings of Victor Segura and Strihavka, ahem)

As you say Patrick, I do have confidence in Roeder when it comes to transfers. Much more than I ever did with Grant.

derby will make £50m or thereabouts for finishing bottom under the new tv deal though. add to that the parachute payments for the next two seasons (which have also increased because of the tv deal) and any of the to be demoted clubs are likely to be able to spend this window.

they're also likely to be by far the strongest squads on paper at the start of next season in the championship.

It's rediculous isn't it.

Natural Blonde said...

I'm just speculating really. The interview he gave to the EDP when his loan came to end seemed to me to say 'Thanks and cheerio'. But I could be wrong! (I hope I am)

[schmindie] said...

absolutely. under the current arrangements the bottom placed team in the prem will make about the same as chelsea did two and a half years ago to win the league... that can't be right :(

Natural Blonde said...

No Northy its ridiculous.

*is stand in spelling police for wumus*

Sorry Northy ;-)

[schmindie] said...

nb - he must not want to go to qpr if they had an offer accepted... they'd already signed 7 new players before the cup on saturday (if i'm getting the right player here) :(

Patrick said...

The money and parachute payments defo help, Schmindie, but the fact remains that most relegated sides suffer an immediate exodus of the few players they have who are good enough to play in the prem, so relegation itself is usually a great leveller. Okay, last year's relegated prem sides are all doing very well in the Championship, but no-ones running away with it and it's tight at the top there.

[schmindie] said...

agree completely itb - point i'm trying to make though is that the relegated sides this year will be substantially better off than those who have preceeded them - therefore this is the last season where things are likely to be remotely open.

can see the norm from next season being 2 of the 3 relegated sides being promoted automatically (sugar daddies turning up elsewhere aside) and the only option for the incumbent clubs being a push for the play offs and the hope that one of the relegated clubs implode :(

Anonymous said...

It leaves other clubs risking everything they have for promotion and if they don't make it, they run the risk of having no money and going into administration. If Derby hadn't gone up last year, they'd have been up shit creek.

Thankyou H, I need all the help I can get! ;)

[schmindie] said...

Exactly Northy. One of the things that has made English football soooo exciting is that the divisions below the top flight (which in terms of winners has been between 4 sides for the last 15 or so years) offer everyone a chance of promotion at the start of the season. With things as they are going you're going to end up with 26 teams with the capability of getting in to the top flight (the odd interloper aside). 6 teams will swap every other season. It equals predictability and the beginning of the end for 'smaller' clubs - as the hope of some sort of success, albeit on a small scale, begins to subside... the 'big' sides will pick up the vast majority of new fans coming through and, in time, the rest will cease to exist :(
