morning all!

i finally got home from norwich on saturday night at 10.30 (bloody trains), heated up some pasta, put match of the day on, and nearly threw up the pasta when i saw eduardo's foot hanging off!

i feel so sorry for martin taylor - clumsy tackle that went horribly wrong yes, two footed lunge no.

perhaps birmingham will sell at the price we offered now? though after saturday, i want to sign that pearce. absolutely outstanding.

ah, some sense. thanks wumus :)

ah no problem schmindie! i know he was only with us for a couple of months but he never made a dirty tackle and he came across as a good guy, apparently he's devastated about what's happened and he didn't need knobhead wenger making comments like he did on saturday night. what's it going to be like when he next plays?

Wenger'ss comment really angered me. I know he's retractedit, but there's still no need for it. If he's aying ban him for life for that tackle, thnyou've got to ban Mikel, Crouch, Henry, Gerrard, Kalou, Huth, Eboue, in fact anyone who's ever done a two-footed or dangerous tackle. I've probably seen thousands of tackles (and been on the recieving end of a few) that were far worse than Taylors yet haven't resulted in a broken leg because of how they connected with the player. Anyone who says Taylors tackle was malicious needs to open their eyes and actually take a look at the tackle. Eduardo has just done him for pace and Taylor has connected with his ankle. 999 times out of 1000 there'd have been no injury, the playr woul have rolld around for ages then got up stright away, the tckle would have been booked (yes, only a booking. He only sent him off because he saw the injury) and noting ore would have ben said about it.

Grrrrrr

go for it huc!

wenger might have retracted it, but he hasn't apologised. he should've apologised.

I just think that had it been the other way around (Eduardo on Taylor) then the media wouldhave made much less of the tackle ("strikers challenge" would probably have ben used quite a lot), it ould have been a "freak incident" (Taylors a big guy after all) and McLeish wouldn't have come out saying that Edurdo should be strung up from the nearest tree and whipped with birch twigs or anything. Frustrates me tht the 'little club' is always made out to be the bad guys. (Has anyone in the media actually condemmed wha Wenger said? Cos I haven't heard anyone)

And apologies for awful spelling, my keyboard is playing up (again)

How be we all?

I can kind of understand Wenger's initial reaction after the game - it was truly a horrific injury and it seemed to me that several of the Arsenal contingent were in shock. That he retracted the statement later in the piece was enough for me - it can't be easy having a microphone thrust in to your face that soon after such an incident - perhaps he should have refused to comment but emotions must have been running very high.

Have to say I agree with HUCs assertion about 999 times out of 1000. Having looked around some messageboards over the weekend you'd think that Taylor had slit Eduardo's throat. It was a bad tackle - late and high - but the sort of tackle that occurs in pretty much every match.

Yep to the red card (I think that the Brum player Kelly who is whingeing about the red card is bang out of order) and the three match ban that comes with that.

Not a patch on the Ben Thatcher challenge on Mendes last season in terms of intent...

Morning all! No baby yet :-S I'm in VERY slow labour, keeps starting and stopping. Aggh!

wumus m'dear I totally agree about Taylor's tackle, a bit stupid but not malicious.

I'm just amazed tha Wenger actually saw this challenge. He seems to miss anything his team does every week....can't stand the man.

Oh yeah, we won at the weekend too! Not that the media would let you know that. The News Of The World (yes I know. They usually give good football write-ups though) barely mentioned us! "Barnsley brought backdown to earth with a bump. Brave Barnsley, conquerors of the almighty Liverpool, were so unfortunate to be beaten by a flukey goal by some tin pot team that play in yellow" Was about the jist of it i think.

(Sorry, i'm in a horrible ranty mood today)

HUC said...

Ah Gallas, the big baby! Was quite funny though. And to be fair, I'd be furious if tht penalty had just been given against my team!

[schmindie] said...

yeah, good win yellas :)

just gutted that firewall united let scummers* get a late equaliser :(

*the south coast version...

wms said...

we were so comfortable it's a shame we didn't get more goals, barnsley were POOR.

does this mean that as we beat barnsley, who beat liverpool, who beat inter milan, that we are better than inter milan?

thought not.

wms said...

ps they defo deserve the trip to benidorm or wherever that glenn is taking them on!

[schmindie] said...

they've turned it around amazingly - guess it must be galling for you lot that you were so far adrift when grant left - it's such a close division that you've actually been displaying championship form in the last three months!

[schmindie] said...

ps - yes, you're better than inter milan ;-)

wms said...

this year's (probs) not our year - but next year..who knows?!
i love glenn!

[schmindie] said...

i bet you do - is grant up to anything now, do you know?

Anonymous said...

Grant is being rent-a-quote on Scottish football at the moment, while Jim Duffer is doing the same for Radio Scotland.

Great result for the yellas on Saturday.

Taylor tackle, clumsy yes, red card possibly but if so so are a thousand other tackles, malicious no. Wenger was bang out of order and if I was Taylor I would want him to apologise. Lets hope Eduardo makes a speedy recovery...

cheers caley. we had duffy down here for about half a season when graham rix was our manager - seemed a decent enough fella but went due to family issues in scotland.

quite scary to consider that rix was our manager 6 years ago - we've come a little way since then :)
