Flooding, recession, corruption in government...

... unrest in the middle east, global warming, TEN DAYS WITH NO FOOTBALL OR CRICKET.

And thats just on THIS mornings news. Is it just me, or are we obsessed with doom?

I think we should all go a bit wumus for the rest of the week and make the blog a cheerful place.

Anyone care to start me off with a story about kittens?

Good news?

Today I walked to work and thought how spring like it was.

I love spring, me.

Speaking for myself, I really don't care about the FA cup. I mean, if by some miracle we did go all the way amd win it, that would be amazing, but the point is it just ain't gonna happen, and when you've got a squad as small as ours and a relegation battle to fight, I really don't think we need the distraction.

I AM gutted about losing our ten game unbeaten run to BURY, but I am sure I will get over that.

sorry nb - couldn't resist ;-)

know what you're saying ITB - there are similar things being said by a lot of people on the Pompey boards as well - the chances are that one of the top 4 will win it - we've been rubbish in the cups since 1992 (and were rubbish between 1939 and 1992 as well ;-)) i would looooooooooooove a trip to wembley to support my team though :)

what i would say though is that a sojourn through to the 5th/6th rounds is only a couple of extra games and gives new signings a chance to gel as well. it's only when teams in the Prem/Champ get to semi-finals that the distraction is likely to become detrimental...

I dunno...I would have thought that any of the teams in the top half of the Prem have a realistic chance of beating even a top four team on their day, and Portsmouth would be well worth a punt.

The chances of anyone outside that top half winning it diminish dramatically, and to have the sort of turkey shoot there was when Millwall fluked their way to the final three seasons back is just pointless and not even entertaining. I mean ordinarily, everyone would root for the underdog, but would any neutral really give a monkey's between Millwall and Man U?

Hmmm. None of the teams outside of the 'big 4' have won the FACup since 1995 though - and for those who are out of contention for the premier league title but look safe to finish in the CL spots all of a sudden (usually around the quarters in march) it becomes a big deal.

Thinking back to the late 90s Newcastle had (I think) a hat-trick of finals against 'big 4' teams and these were dull games in which Newcastle were second best. Southampton didn't threaten Arsenal (having lost 6-0 to them in the league the week previous).

That said I'm not going to stop wanting us to progress in the tournament :)
